I went with a group to this restaurant this evening and was extremely disappointed. Every restaurant can have a tough time with service from time to time, but there's no excuse, when it comes time to talk to the manager about it, for a poor response from the manager. In a nearly empty restaurant this evening, we waited 15 minutes for drinks, and another hour for entrees. When we got frustrated enough to speak to the manager about it, the response was a disingenuous "i'm sorry." No effort to fix things, no effort to make unhappy customers want to return. This group will take its business elsewhere.

I love Italian food and this was very disappointing. The only thing good was the bread, not worth going back there for though. My husband ordered lasagna which was pretty decent overall. I ordered a red pasta dish with vegetables and sausage in it, which was subpar. Vegetables were to big and undercooked, sauce was just as good as prego (yuck) and sausage was over cooked. The service was actually excellent and there was no wait. Not anywhere near authentic, and overpriced. Won't go there again.

Better than Olive Garden~**caution, rant ahead** Once you make it past the 15 year old parking checker kid, you can park right in their lot~! Im soooo over going to anything at Legends....the only reason we do is bc its right near our house. If it werent, I would be avoiding the corporate food amusement park like the plague. As it is, when there is a soccer game or event at Livestrong, it turns into a fucking madhouse out there...but I digress. Anyway about their food. Its ok. They bring you bread with Italian Butter, which is more authentic than Olive Garden, not that that is saying much. But their menu is ok, we had their calimari, which is pretty ok. I had some Shrimp Scampi, and my mans had some chicken stuff with some cheese stuffed somethinorothers. Their Ceasar salad was ok that comes with their entree. So yeah, its ok. If I werent down on corporate food joints, Id probably love it. We have made the decision to start venturing away from the house further and try more local and/or small business type joints. That and I dont feel like I have to justify my plans to some effin kid in an orange vest. Fuck off kid, and dont touch my car tires with your chalk or Ill kick your ass. (squeal tires and burn out)

An Italian Applebee's, They received 3 stars because of the super cheap lunch deals. $5-$9 So I recently saw this new Carino's at The Legends. They used to have one by my folks place down on 119th but it went out of business. I always liked the one on 119th for a reason that I no longer remember now. So after a walking around the Legends a bit, I saw Johnny Carino's when leaving. We decided to stop in, even with only a few cars in the parking lot. The food was still the same old, nothing spectacular. I was a bit disappointed. They bring bread out to you, but we had to continually ask for more throughout the entire meal. They are tiny little loafs (4in) and there were 4 of us. The olive oil on the table was super cheap and had no taste of olives. My lasagna was just ok, I've had much better, including Olive Garden (yes, i said it). The wifey had the soup and salad and had to send the minestrone back because it tasted like it came from a can. My Mother really like her artichoke and caper fettucini (that's big time) and Pops... well you never really know about him. On a positive note: The lunch specials were awesome in price. They started at $5 for unlimited soup and salad or you could add a pasta dish for $1. That is a hard deal to really complain about for $6. I would return for that $6 option. Overall I would give it the same rating I would give Applebee's. It's not my genre of food, if you catch what I'm throwing.

Welp! I had a very good experience here. First, The waiter I had was very polite and attentive. The service was excellent and I was quickly seated. Second, The food was not EXTRA SPECIAL but, it was delicious. I had a pasta dish(cajun/ pepper shrimp and chicken?) and it was seasoned well! The only thing to complain about is the complimentary appetizer and bread with an olive oil seasoning. The olive oil and seasoning was tasteless. But hey, it's optional and complimentary. All in all it's a nice place to take a small group to and have lunch or even dinner. They have alot of specials on wines with the dinners they serve.

Great service! Was there on a Friday night at 630 and the wait staff was still fast and friendly. Food was good too. Highly recommend

Went Sunday right after what I thought would be the lunch rush. We arrived at 1230 and the dining room was fairly empty. We had a party of 9 and were seated right away. Ordered drinks, tea and water. All arrived minus ice. Server said she'd bring us ice. She came back and said they'd run out of glasses! How do you not have clean glasses in a half empty restaurant at 1230? She brought ice in kids cups. Next ordered meals. Got the warm bread, which as others have said was divine!! Potato soup was great as was the Cesar salad. Server seemed to forget who ordered what, though, between every round. She'd have to ask who ordered what every time. Not the end of the world but tells me she's not paying attention. My sister ordered the make your own pasta with Alfredo sauce minus bacon as she's allergic (awful I know!!). Her pasta arrived - you guessed it - with bacon. Sent it back for them to make another. Came with little pieces of something in it. She didn't trust it so just so just took it home. I got the skilletini and it was great. My husband got Johnny's trio and it was great as well. Overall not the greatest service but decent food. Won't completely write it off but will be sure to not have high expectations for service.

My wife and I were out and about in the Legends area, and we had a hunger for some Italian. Unfortunately, we didn't have as good of as an experience as we had wanted. We walked in at 11, right as the doors opened. We did this because it was Sunday, we were hungry, and we wanted to beat the church rush. We ordered drinks and mozzarella sticks. Our server said some bread was on its way. We got the mozzarella sticks first. They were okay. Crispy, but not spectacular. The bread and oil was really good. The bread had some nice flavor and they put bacon bits in the oil, which was delicious. The entrees came with a choice of soup or salad. My wife got the caesar salad. I got the potato soup. Both were very good. We were starting to get optimistic about are entrees. So far so good. I had ordered Chicken Fettuccine with alfredo sauce. My wife got the Chicken Milano. A little while later, the server came up to us and said they didn't have any fettuccine noodles. What?!? We were the first customers of the day and they didn't have the noodles for our meals? You must be joking! She did offer replacements. I got spaghetti. My wife got penne. The entree's was were it all went wrong. Wrong noodles aside, the alfredo sauce was salty. It went well with the chicken. The chicken tasted good. After eating it for a while, the salt won out and I had to put the food aside. My wife thought her sauce was fine, but the ham on the Chicken Milano was disgusting. She said it was like someone took some lunch meat, left it out on the counter overnight, then cooked it and covered it with cheese. Her chicken tasted fine, but was very overcooked and tough. When what we thought would be the lunch rush hit, it was still not very busy there. Due to this, the servers were less attentive than they should have. My wife saw ours standing in the corner, chatting up her friends while we had empty plates and glasses on our table. Some training is definitely needed here in the kitchen and in the wait staff. Some aspects of the meal were fine. The bread was good. The soup and salad were good. The mozzarella sticks were okay. The entrees need work. We probably won't be back, but I can't say the place is terrible. It is just not top notch.

Your basic Italian place. Nothing super special or different from any other Italian chain, but good food in a nice, clean atmosphere, and great, attentive service- our waiter, Jay I think his name is, was outstanding. The complimentary warm bread they brought with our drinks was divine. Bread is always extra delicious when it's served hot, isn't it?! They served it with a plate of dipping sauce with olive oil and bacon crumbles- they were a bit too hard, though, and got stuck in my teeth. Our entrees were all great, and I appreciate that they have some healthier options available, and all the nutrition info is available on their website. Liked that the had the Royals game on too- but it wasn't loud and intrusive to our dinner.

I have not been here in a while but it does look like it went DOWN HILL. The server was ok. She kept our drinks full and asked if everything was ok. The food was was awful. The plates were not even HOT. My husband and I got the lobster ravioli.......it was cold. My sister had a a salmon salad without onions..... it onions on the salad. Will not be going back.

Average -to- good chain restaurant Italian food. The bread with dipping oil is a family favorite. Delicious granitas, half price during happy hour, which lasts until 7 pm Monday through Friday. My favorite, consistently good dish, is the chicken penne with gorgonzola. Reasonably priced and something for everyone in the family, from salads to kid's pizzas. Our go to for Italian in the legends area.

This is my fav for Italian food! Great prices, great food and courteous and fast service combine to make this a wonderful experience whenever I eat here. Every table gets a mini bread loaf with reasted garlic and olive oil to dip. I mostly order one of the chicken dishes and they have always been flavorful and plentiful.

So yesterday was my mom's birthday & I told her that I would take her & the fam out for dinner. What did she decide that she wanted? Why minestrone soup from Johnny Carino's for some reason. Okay, I'm down. So since it happened to be Monday night (it was also MLK day but that has no bearing on this review, just wanted to give a shout out to MLK & equal rights for all, now back to the review), & on Monday nights, Carino's has 1/2 priced family platters, we did a few platters. Several people did soups, others did salads. It was something for all of us. Of course, mom enjoyed her minestrone, two girls liked their broccoli parmesan soup & the last girl liked her salad. The boys didn't like their salad or Italian chili although my mom enjoyed my son's chili enough for both of them. Entree time!!! We got the skilletini with chicken & sausage, chicken parmesan & a create your own pasta version of chicken fettucine for the finicky boys. There was plenty of food however the two boys (aged 18 & one mth shy of 14) demolished the fettucine. My little taste of it made me say eh but they loved it. The parmesan platter was pretty good. If I.had any complaints, it would be the little amount of spaghetti noodles. The skilletini was pretty awesome though. It had just enough kick to shock your tastebuds. I just wish it had a bit more sauce. Special mention to the Italian sodas with cream.I heart them. My problems were that it's very cold in the restaurant. I don't know if it was because of Monday night's having a small crowd but we all kept our jackets on. Who wants to eat in winter coats? Not me! Also, the lighting was super low, not romantic low but "I'm gonna jump out of the closet & get you low" in our area. One of the kids mentioned not liking the lights. Our waitress was nice but not engaging. That was weird for us because we're uses to having conversations with the staff. It helps us determine if we'll be back. Oh & I don't know if I would be willing to pay the normal price for the family platter. I might be more inclined to just let everyone pick their own meal. Overall, the good outweighed the bad so I'm sure we'll be back.

Located in Legends, Johnny Carino's is a fantastic Italian restaurant in the area. The menu has a complex variety of Italian cuisine. The Johnny's Combo, was is wonderful. The chicken Parmesan was the best I've ever had. The waitstaff was exceedingly friendly. The dining room and atmosphere could be improved; I thought it was too bright.

Nothing to exciting. ..over price Italian food much better then olive garden ... there salmon salad is good and pasta ...there drinks for adults are nothing to get excited about there is no alcohol in them...would I go back probably not ...unless someone else pays

The food was alright. Nothing fantastic but nothing awful. The service was good at first, then it turned to awful when he was more concerned with yelling and flirting with the other workers. There were many times where we had to sit and wait for him and with an empty restaurant, it got pretty frustrating. If they had a manager getting them in line, it would be a lot better

There were 15 of us that went there for lunch. I had called ahead to reserve a table for 15 people. The address was very good but there was only so much you could do and she received no help from the manager or her coworkers. Got there at 11:15 and we received our food which was soup and salad at 12:10. I tried to make the manager aware of the situation but he really didn't care what I had to say and wanted to stop talking to me so he comped everyone's meal. However one person didn't even get to eat and it was not even boxed up for her to go and this person coming in to the manager about it and he didn't really seem to care about that either. So they have 15 people in the Kansas City area that won't be going back

It seems like most people have had a rather dull experience here, but we went for the first time (we're getting ready to move about two miles down the road) and I was surprised at how good it actually was compared to what I was expecting. I had the eggplant parm and my only complaint is there was, like, an entire fennel bush hiding under the cheese (I hate fennel, but it was too much even if you like it). We really liked their red sauce and enjoyed the calamari. I thought it was better than Olive Garden, at least. Our service was fine - not outstanding, but not bad.

In years go going to this location, we have had maybe one above average experience. We continue to go back with expectations it will get better, no more. Servers are horrible and the managers are worse, they could care less whether you come back or not. I suspect this location won't last too much longer. Food has decreased in quality, eventually getting worse than even Olive Garden. If you are looking for someplace to eat at the Legends, try Stix or Granite City... Way better!

Why is this restaurant so badly run? A 20 minute wait when there are 7 empty tables in the dining room. Chairs and tables greasy. Gunk on the glass of the picture frames. No bread plates, no plates for the appetizer, no offer to refill drinks. Too bad because there was really nothing wrong with the food.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
